What's the one thing we all do when we get together with our college friends? a) organize a study group, b) buy Boone's Strawberry Hill c) gossip about people on campus d) drink copious amounts of alcohol like you could when you were 20. If you answered C & D, you are correct. Nicole's college roommate, Adam, was in Hong Kong on business so he decided to swing by Tokyo for the weekend. Nicole and Adam painted the town red with a little help from our friends Stacey and Logan. Chris wasn't around because he was stuck on a two week business trip across Asia. It was up to Nicole to show Adam the sights of Tokyo.
Friday was a tame evening of drinks at our local and favorite bar, PB. As the retired salaryman spun his favorite vinyl, Nicole and Adam caught up over tall glasses of gin and tonic.
Saturday, the former roommates headed out for a day of sightseeing. They hit the imperial palace first, followed by lunch in Harajuku, a stroll around Meiji Shrine and a walk down Omotesando. Phew, I'm tired thinking about all of that walking. Nicole and Adam stopped at Starbucks and a chocolate pastry shop to refuel. After the caffeine surge, they continued home through Aoyama Cemetery.
Saturday night, Nicole and Adam grabbed some food at Bamboo (another one of our favorite places) where they started the night with kimchi dumplings, tuna sashimi over salad and fried rice, yum! Next, they made a stop at the Owl Bar for some gin and tonics and beer. Stacey and Logan joined the group at this point and there was no stopping the fun.
After the Owl Bar, they all headed up to Roppongi to give Adam an authentic Tokyo experience. After being propositioned a few times by random women, we headed to a pizza truck on the street for some slices. Once a sufficient amount of grease was ingested, we went to an Irish pub to wash it all down. After a few rounds, and lots of people watching, we then stumbled to a nearby club to play round after round of darts.
The night wasn't over yet because when we stumbled out of the club we headed straight for the McDonald's for some good old US of A fast food. Adam and Nicole said farewell to Stacey and Logan and walked home with french fries and hamburgers in hand.
We started the day on Sunday very slowly, with lots of water and a few Excedrin (the good old headache medicine). Nicole escorted Adam to Tokyo Station and said goodbye to our first Tokyo visitor.
Adam hopes to be back soon with his wife and a few more vacation days...
