Tsukiji Fish Market is THE PLACE for fresh fish and sushi. It's the biggest fish market in the world where over 5 million pounds of fish are bought and sold every day. But that auction takes place between 4:30 and 6 a.m. and we weren't about to get up that early.
There are countless little sushi stands around the market area but we opted for the 3 story restaurant that is owned by one of the families that dominates the Japan sushi industry.
The sushi was amazing and as we finished we noticed a ruckus emanating from the first floor. The chefs were cutting up massive pieces of tuna and in somewhat ceremonious fashion.
We watched for a little while, took some pictures and as we walked out we were greeted with an even bigger surprise...the source of the massive tuna pieces.
You see, the fish broker (love the yellow galoshes) had just purchased this Charlie Tuna for $10,000 and the guys outside we're going to work on it with the biggest knife we've ever seen.
