This year we went international and held our first Tokyo barbecue.
Nicole made fresh salsa the night before (giving the chili peppers time to crank up the heat), hummus, pasta salad and other delicacies. Several of our friends brought over brownies and cupcakes. Yum!
Chris was the grill master - serving up sausage, dogs, corn on the cob, his famous homemade burgers, and Nic's Indian chicken kebabs. Despite ominous clouds, several of our US friends remained outdoors so they could fully enjoy the sweet smell that is barbecue.
Being in Tokyo, we did have to infuse some Japanese fare into the event. Our friend Eric came to the rescue - introducing us to sochu. Now being an alcoholic beverage we wouldn't necessarily
classify it as fare but it is made from potatoes (or rice) so that's close enough. Sochu is basically sake's bigger, tougher brother. Even the size of the bottle says "look out."
It was a really great time chatting with everyone and stuffing our faces. We can't wait until we can do it all again. Here are some pics.
